Speaking is an opportunity to share my knowledge with large groups of people and advocate for change. I am a strong believer in the mindset that knowledge is power. Everyone should feel empowered and have the knowledge they need to do what is important to them.

As I became a private practice owner I realized that figuring it all out and mistakes were teaching moments. Not everyone has to invent the wheel, and so I brought my experiences back to my residency. I teach what I learned to the fellows, so they can skip some of the hurdles and graduate feeling confident able to have autonomy from corporate medicine.

Practicing mindfulness gives us the power of calm. The ability to be present in the moment, at that moment, without judgement. Accepting what is happening and navigating the experience. Not the past, nor the future. Just right in that moment. Learning this skill creates a mindset shift that is a lifesaver for so many of us who get caught second guessing our choices. Or those of us who are anxious about what may happen in the future - the ‘what if's’ that cannot be controlled. Speaking about how mindfulness and meditation are helpful for calming busy minds, and teaching simple practices is meaningful and empowering for me and those listening.

Mental health is my calling. It has been since I was very young as I have been involved in its world for as long as I can remember. My first formal teaching experience started in high school when my teacher, Ms. Black let me lead her Psychology class for a day and I knew I was hooked. I have spoken professionally on anxiety, depression, bipolar, autism, suicide, self-injury and more.

Through education I have been advocating for patients, advocating for doctors, advocating for families by sharing resources and knowledge. Together we can focus on wellness, improve lives, and save some too.
